A holistic approach

I practice a holistic approach to nutrition, which means that all areas of your life are connected and may be considered as part of Your Wellness Program. Does stress at your job or in your relationship cause you to overeat? Does lack of sleep or low energy prevent you from exercising? As you work together with me, you will learn how all parts of your life affect the whole.

No one diet works for everyone

The Institute for Integrative Nutrition defines the concept of bio-individuality as each person having their own nutritional needs. This means that when the experts say, “dairy is good for you” or “fat is unhealthy,” it’s too much of a generalization. "One person’s food is another person’s poison," and that’s why fad diets don’t work in the long run. As your Health Coach, I look at your age, health, activity level, blood type, metabolic rate and personal preferences to determine your dietary needs.

Everything is food
Healthy relationships, a fulfilling career, regular physical activity and a spiritual practice are essential forms of nourishment. When these “primary foods” are balanced, what you eat becomes secondary.

Integrative Nutrition Pyramid
The Integrative Nutrition pyramid depicts a balanced approach to nutrition: more high-quality, organic vegetables, fruits, complex carbohydrates, protein and water; less meat, milk, sugar and artificial food. The pyramid is surrounded with the primary food circle, the parts of life that satisfy our hunger for living and create a balanced life.

Mission

I attended the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, whose mission is to play a crucial role in improving health and happiness in America, and through that process, create a ripple effect that transforms the world.

Training and Certification

I completed my training at the
Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN) in Manhattan, New York with board certification in Health Counseling.
The Institute for Integrative Nutrition is associated with SUNY Purchase College and is the only nutrition school that focuses on a holistic approach to health while teaching all the major dietary theories and health counseling training. I am also board certified and accredited by the American Association for Drugless Practitioners (AADP). I have a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Southern Maine.

Putting myself last. For years I was working long hours, running from one thing to the next, trying to fit everything in: family and friends, work, fun, exercise, and time for myself. I was tired, stressed out and suffered from headaches and lots of bloating and digestive discomfort. Each day I had my coffee for breakfast, grabbed a quick lunch out, snacked on sweets in between and often brought pizza or other take-out home for dinner. Even when I tried making a healthy meal, I still knew I could do better, but didn't know how. My life was crazy and I told myself that the fast-paced, constantly on-the-go lifestyle was just something I had to live with.

Congratulations, you have cancer. It wasn't until my cancer diagnosis at age 27 that I realized I needed to turn my life around. I began making small, manageable changes in my diet and lifestyle...no dieting or counting calories...just eating food the way nature intended and learning to balance other areas in my life. I immediately began having more energy (even in the middle of chemotherapy!), and I felt happier than I had in a long time. I beat the cancer and am happier, healthier and less stressed today than I have been my entire life.
